About Scots Pine

Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) is a majestic conifer of the Pinaceae family, capable of reaching up to 35 meters in height. It is distinguished by its orange bark on the upper part of the trunk, which contrasts with the greyish tones of the base. Its long, bluish-green needles, grouped in pairs, give it a light and slender appearance, characteristic of boreal and mountainous forests.

Undemanding, it adapts to a wide variety of conditions, growing in poor, sandy, rocky or acidic soils. It resists negative temperatures and cold winds well, which makes it a dominant species in the forests of northern Europe and Asia. Its slow growth and robustness also make it an excellent choice for reforestation and soil stabilization at altitude.

Its ovoid cones mature in two years and open to release winged seeds, dispersed by the wind. In addition to its ecological role, Scots pine is used for its wood, its resin and its essential oil extracted from the needles, known for its toning, expectorant and purifying properties.
