Do you know what distinguishes a natural and organic cosmetic from a conventional cosmetic?

Conventional cosmetic and personal hygiene products may include natural ingredients in their composition, but they contain a variety of synthetic chemicals whose absorption by the human body has often been associated with health problems.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) analyzed the ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products against several databases of hazardous chemicals (government, industry, and academic) and concluded that more than 1 in 5 products contain chemicals linked to cancer, 80% contain ingredients that typically contain dangerous impurities, and 56% contain penetration enhancers that help deliver ingredients deeper into the skin (more information on this can be found on the EWG and The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics websites).

In fact, although the capacity of different synthetic chemicals to penetrate the skin, which is the largest organ in our body, is variable, and they are included in greater or lesser quantities in different conventional cosmetics, it is the cumulative effect resulting from the use of several of these products daily that increases the risks associated with their use, especially for children.

On the contrary, natural and organic cosmetics are characterized by the absence of toxic substances, petroleum derivatives and genetically modified products.

With regard to organic products, the production process is also designed to not harm the environment, combining values ​​of sustainability and social responsibility.

How to recognize it? Always read the labels carefully to see all the ingredients, as the classification of a product as natural does not exclude the possibility of it containing toxic ingredients in its composition.
